Russian Ambassador summoned to foreign ministry

Chisinau, Aug 1 /MOLDPRES/- An employee of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau has been declared an undesirable person on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. An informative note in this regard was handed today to Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov, who was summoned to the Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry, "the decision of the Moldovan authorities was taken as a result of specific activities undertaken, as a result of which information and evidence were obtained that the Russian diplomat was carrying out on the territory of the Republic of Moldova activities incompatible with diplomatic status."

In this context, the Russian Embassy employee is to leave the Republic of Moldova.

A Parliament official and a border guard were detained yesterday on suspicion of treason and conspiracy against the Republic of Moldova. Prosecutors have established that they were communicating with an employee of an embassy in Chisinau to whom they were providing information "to be used against the interests of the Republic of Moldova".
