Moldovan, Lithuanian officials approach cooperation

Chisinau, Aug 1 /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu met today with Lithuanian National Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The speaker thanked him for his stance in adopting the European Council decision to start accession negotiations with Moldova. "Lithuania is one of the most active supporters of Moldova's accession to the EU and provides significant political and financial support to mitigate the consequences of Russia's aggression against our country," Grosu said.
Grosu underlined that the country's defence and security sector is a priority for the government and the authorities are taking concrete steps to modernize the National Army and strengthen defence capabilities, noting also the help provided by Lithuania in this area. The officials also exchanged views on combating propaganda, which is a direct threat to a state's security.
"Lithuania is an example of progress on EU membership. I am sure that the excellent dialogue and cooperation between our countries will continue and I am glad we have such reliable partners on our way to accession," Grosu added.
