Chisinau, Aug 7 /MOLDPRES/- Referendum is a very important element for the Republic of Moldova and we hope that as many citizens as possible will participate in the plebiscite. European Union Ambassador to Chisinau Janis Mazeiks made the statements in an interview with Est Curier.
The referendum is a very important event for any nation, including the Republic of Moldova, because it concerns not only the current generation, but also future generations. "We hope that as many citizens as possible will take part in this referendum so that we can find out whether citizens are for or against Moldova's accession to the EU," the diplomat said.
He noted that it is very important that the opinion of citizens in the referendum is not affected or manipulated by outside forces. Mazeiks urged the political forces to express opinion on integration honestly, and asked citizens to be well informed and not to become victims of propaganda.
The EU official said that Moldova had made great progress in the last three years and should now maintain its efforts to become a EU member.
The Moldovan citizens will take part in a constitutional referendum on October 20, 2024, and will answer the question "Do you agree with amending the Constitution for Moldova's accession to the European Union?".
