Polish importer interested in doubling amount of fruit purchased in Moldova

Chisinau, August 13 /MOLDPRES/- With the USAID support, Dapol, an importer from Poland, of Bronisze market initiated collaboration with fruit producers from the Republic of Moldova. After starting with a few truckloads of table grapes in 2022, Dapol imported over 700 tons of plums and grapes from Moldova in 2023.

USAID Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity organized a mission for the Dapol company this month. The company's representatives visited orchards of fruit producers in our country, after which the importer announced that it intends to double the quantities of plums and grapes purchased this season.

Requirements for imported products include appropriate packaging, certifications according to EU requirements and high quality standards.

USAID claims that it will continue to provide support to Moldovan fruit producers to help increase the quality and expand the geography of exports.

Sought after for their quality and special taste, Moldovan fruits are increasingly in demand on the European Union market. "If in 2021 around 75 tons of cherries were exported, in 2023 the figure reaches 2,600 tons. Regarding apples, in 2021 around one thousand tons were delivered to the EU, while in 2023 producers exported around 11 thousand tons. At the same time, the export of plums increased, approximately twice on the EU market (from 27 thousand tons in 2021, it reached 55 thousand tons in 2023). A significant increase was also recorded in the export of grapes, with winegrowers managing to export around 25 thousand tons, compared to 17 thousand tons in 2021", according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. The strengthening of the position of the Republic of Moldova on the European market is also due to the decision of the EU to suspend the taxes and import quotas applicable to products exported from the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
