German Federal Chancellor on visit to Chisinau

Chisinau, Aug 21 /MOLDPRES/- German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected in Chisinau today. The official is on a working visit to Moldova at the invitation of Head of State Maia Sandu. In the evening, the two officials will have a meeting followed by a joint press conference.

According to the presidential institution, the visit underlines the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, Germany being one of Moldova's most important partners in the modernization and accession of our country to the European Union.

In the context of Scholz's visit, access to certain public places in the capital will be temporarily restricted. The restrictions will apply between 08:00-21:00.

Drivers are urged to comply with the requirements of traffic officers, to show patience and discipline and not to deviate from the traffic rules.

Olaf Scholz visited the Republic of Moldova on June 1, 2023, when he attended the European Political Community Summit in Bulboaca. The last bilateral visit of a German Chancellor to Moldova took place 12 years ago.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany were established on April 30, 1992. Statistical data reveal that 427 enterprises with German capital are active in the Republic of Moldova, investments amounting to 773.353 million lei. According to the amount of invested capital, the Federal Republic of Germany ranks 6th among the main investors of the Republic of Moldova, and according to the number of enterprises - 7th.

In terms of trade volume, the Federal Republic of Germany ranks 3rd among Moldova's main trading partners in the world, with a share of 8.58% in Moldova's total trade.
