Moldovan president on promises at start of her mandate

Chisinau, Aug. 21 /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu presents the results of her work in the four years since taking office as head of state. "We have managed to maintain peace in the hardest moments and we have not sold our country," Maia Sandu said in a video posted on social networks.

In the video message, the head of state reviewed the five national goals announced in 2020. Maia Sandu said that the promises made upon taking office have been largely carried out. The official listed the five major goals: to bring Moldova out of isolation and closer to the European Union; to allocate two billion lei annually for village modernization projects; a minimum pension of 2,000 lei; jobs at home and united families; justice, order and discipline.

Maia Sandu: "In 2020, I promised to promote five major national goals. I want to discuss on each of them what we have achieved and where we still have work to do. The things we have done are not just figures in reports. There are thousands of people we have cared for, children now learning in repaired schools, patients being treated in hospitals with modern equipment. Pensioners who have received help and increased pensions. Entrepreneurs who have been supported to invest and grow their businesses. Families who have water and sanitation after 30 years of waiting. I understand that my opponents who have ganged up against me say that I have done nothing, because that's the only way they know how to campaign. For me, however, any action that has improved living conditions in Moldova, as I promised, is important. I did not promise heaven on earth, I did not promise that overnight we would live as in the most advanced economies, I promised that we would rid Moldova of the oligarchic regime, authoritarian seizures, theft from the state budget, the destruction of all institutions. This has been happening for three decades in Moldova. Important thing is to move forward, to stop allowing the state to be taken over for personal interests, to choose for ourselves. And to go resolutely down the chosen path, to develop the localities, to build a state for the people. All these things are done sometimes with mistakes, sometimes more slowly, but they are done. There are areas where mistakes have been made and we take them on board, but let us look at where Moldova was four years ago, where it is now and where it can be in a few years' time. Let's not set the country on fire when things don't happen as quickly as we want."

"We have managed to keep the peace in the hardest times and we have not sold our country. We stayed free and we live in peace, we work we build. We take care of our families and our country. We are listened to and respected by the most developed countries of the world. And we have succeeded precisely because we have kept our trust in each other, remained united and acted wisely," the President concluded.

Maia Sandu promised to come back with new information on the achievement of the goals announced four years ago.

On October 20, Moldova will hold presidential elections.
