Chisinau, 26 August /MOLDPRES/ - The southern Cimislia town on 25 August hosted the ninth edition of the Grapes Festival – an event of tradition which brings together the most gifted vine-growers from all over Moldova. The festival took place in a festive framework, where the atmosphere full of colour and fragrance was dominated by amber-coloured, sweet and perfumed grapes, which delighted all visitors. Among them, there were Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea, other government members, representatives of the diplomatic corps, development partners, etc.

The officials emphasized the importance of the vine-growing sector for the national economy and praised the vine-growers’ efforts who, by their dedicated work, maintain and develop this essential branch of Moldova’s agriculture.

Deputy PM Vladimir Bolea and more producers discussed the challenges faced by the sector, such as the climate changes, access to markets and the need to modernize the technologies. Also, the official stressed the commitment of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) to back the vine-growers through efficient policies, meant to create a well-developed sector, with highly-productive varieties, which are to compete on the international market. ‘’We want an advanced vine-growing sector, able to cope with the global challenges and ensure a prosperous future for our vine-growers. The vine-growing sector is one of the pillars of our economy and we will continue investing in it, in order to make sure that Moldova stays a regional leader in the production of qualitative wines and grapes,’’ Vladimir Bolea said.

Forty one producers from 12 vine-growing districts participated in the festival; each of them displayed to the public the most valuable harvest of grapes. The diversity of varieties and the special quality of the grapes displayed were appreciated by all those present. The most skillful vine-growers were awarded diplomas, handed by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, as a token of gratitude for their work.

The Grapes Festival from Cimislia proved, once again, to be an important platform for the promotion of the native vine products and for the consolidation of the relations between producers and consumers. The event contributes significantly to the preservation of the vine-growing traditions and to the economic development of Moldova’s vine-growing regions.
