Romania's top leadership conveys congratulatory message on Moldova's Independence Day

Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/ - Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis on 27 August conveyed a congratulatory message on the occasion of Moldova’s Independence Day, noting that Bucharest would continue providing strategic support to Moldova.
„I convey congratulations to Moldova’s citizens on the Independence Day! You are part of the great European family and the continuation of the present efforts will turn the accession to EU into an achieved goal. Romania will continue providing Moldova with strategic support in all sectors,’’ Klaus Iohannis wrote on the X platform.
President of Romanian Senate Nicolae Ciuca also came up with a congratulatory message. ‘’As president of the Senate, I reassure the Moldovan authorities that Bucharest is with them on the way of accession to the European structures. For the East of the continent, the integration into EU is the only guarantee of the development and of well-being. I celebrate this outstanding day for our brothers from beyond the Prut river, being with them with my heart and wishing them prosperity and success on the European integration way,’’ Nicolae Ciuca said.
The official noted that the ‘’Day of Independence of Moldova from the USSR is an occasion to recall the succession of the events which took place three decades ago, which led to the regaining of the rights of the former Soviet republics to choose their fate by themselves.’’ According to Ciuca, ‘’both in 1991 and now, 27 August finds us on a period full of challenges on behalf of Moscow.’’ Nicolae Ciuca specified that ‘’presently, however, Moldova is firmly committed on the way of European integration and its institutions successfully counteract the Russian interferences.’’
Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu also congratulated Moldova’s citizens. He gave assurances that ‘’Romania will be, in the long run, just as it is now, on the first line of the efforts of consolidation of the European integration path, stability and democratic development of Moldova.’’
„I convey my congratulations and of Romania’s government to all Moldova’s citizens, at the anniversary of the Independence Day! I congratulated today also my friend, Dorin Recean, and re-assured him that Romania would be, in the long run as well, in the first line of the efforts of consolidation of the European integration way, stability and democratic development of Moldova. Our firm, clear, never failing support for Moldova is based on the consensus at the level of the political actors from Romania an on a solid affective attachment of the entire Romanian society,’’ Ciolacu stressed.
The Romanian PM also said that ‘’the European integration is the only option which can ensure to all Moldova’s citizens the chance for a better future, a worthier and richer living.’’ The official emphasized that ‘’Moldova’s place is in the European Union.’’ He showed confidence that ‘’at the referendum from 20 October 2024, the citizens of Moldova will plainly reaffirm this truth.’’
‘’We speak the same language, we have the same culture and history, we want the same future for Moldova: safe, flourishing, democratic, inside the European family. We will be with Moldova, all its citizens, on the road due to lead to the fulfillment of this ideal. We are fully confident in Moldova’s government, Prime Minister Dorin Recean, in the resolute and courageous effort of the entire Chisinau administration, meant to prepare the achievement of this objective,’’ Marcel Ciolacu added.
Moldova on 27 August marked the 33rd anniversary of the proclamation of its Independence, voted by the parliament on 27 August 1991. The event was celebrated nationally in all the country’s villages, towns and cities with the laying of flowers, exhibitions, sports competitions, concerts and commemorative actions.
