EU leaders convey congratulatory messages to Moldova's citizens on Independence Day

Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s Independence Day was marked on 27 August. This is a day to honour the extraordinary travel of a country which released itself from the Soviet chains, edified its democracy and now constantly advances on its European path. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen conveyed a message to this effect on the occasion of Moldova’s Independence Day.
European Council President Charles Michel also congratulated the Moldovan citizens on the occasion of the 33 years of Independence. ‘’We offer congratulations to the Republic of Moldova! Today, we honour the resistance, power and commitment of this proud nation to a European future. Congratulations, Moldova!’’ Charles Michel said.
European parliament President Roberta Metsola also came up with a congratulatory message. ‘’Congratulations on the Independence Day, Moldova!,’’ Metsola wrote on the X platform.
Moldova on 27 August marked the 33rd anniversary of the proclamation of its Independence, voted by the parliament on 27 August 1991. The event was celebrated nationally in all the country’s villages, towns and cities with the laying of flowers, exhibitions, sports competitions, concerts and commemorative actions.
