Moldovan PM on Independence Day receives presidents of Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia

Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean on 27 August received on visit the three leaders of the Baltic states – President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, President of Estonia Alar Karis and President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs. The officials visited Moldova at an invitation by President Maia Sandu, in order to mark along with the Moldovans the 33rd anniversary of the Independence Day, the government’s communication department has reported.
PM Dorin Recean stressed that the presence of these leaders in Chisinau was a proof of the constant and solid support provided by the Baltic States to Moldova on its European integration path.
„On our way to a better life, we are not alone. We have true friends with us, who support us and show us, by their own example that the future is in our hands. Today, we celebrate not only the Independence Day, but also the strong partnerships which we have edified with our friends from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
The PM also said that the Baltic Countries, which this year mark the 20th anniversary of their membership in the European Union, represent a source of inspiration for Moldova as regards the European integration and the modernization of the country.
„Our goal is for us to make sure that the institutions are strong and transparent, that the law is observed, that there is no room for corruption in our society and that the rights of each citizens are protected. Our Baltic friends can say us that each of these steps is worth the effort made and the benefits are clear and concrete - they mean safe and well-paid jobs, better roads, hospitals, modern villages and cities,’’ the prime minister said.
President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, President of Estonia Alar Karis and President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs congratulated the Moldovan citizens on the Independence Day and signed a joint declaration, in order to express their strong support for Moldova’s European integration way.
The three heads of state stressed that, in the last years, Moldova had considerably advanced in the carrying out of the democratic reforms, consolidation of the rule of law state and promotion of the human rights. In the context, they expressed the commitment to provide, in continuation, the needed support and expertise to back the European integration and the reforms, as well as in order to strengthen Moldova’s resilience against the hybrid threats and the misinformation.
„We commit to deepen the bilateral cooperation in such sectors as the commerce, investments, energy security, education and cultural exchanges, further consolidation of relations between our nations. We believe that a united, democratic and prosperous Moldova is for the benefit not only of its citizens, but also of the entire European continent. We fully support the future accession of Moldova to the European Union,’’ reads the joint declaration.
The leaders of the three Baltic States also urged the Moldovan citizens to actively participate in the referendum due next autumn, in order to make the European path irreversible.
The support provided to Moldova by Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia is vast and comprises more fields: digitalization of public services, energy optimization of the public buildings, development of professional training programmes – all meant to back the country’s modernization and to speed up the integration into the European Union.
On 27 August at 19:00, the three Baltic heads of state conveyed congratulatory messages to the Moldovan citizens on the stage set on the Great National Assembly Square.
