Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Independence Day is the fit day for us to wonder everybody about what Moldova’s story we want to be, as we are the ones who write it. President Maia Sandu has made statements to this effect. On 27 August evening, the head of state conveyed a congratulatory message in video format on the stage of the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN), on the occasion of the marking of Moldova’s Independence Day.     .

President Maia Sandu said that, for 33 years, Moldova had been edifying its own destiny. ‘’In 1989, our nation assembled on this Square, the Great National Assembly Square and demanded freedom, independence, Latin script and right to self-determination and in two years, the Declaration of Independence was voted. We owe gratitude to those who fulfilled their duty and took care of Moldova’s fate. We would have not been here at present without those who were before us and we, for our part, have responsibility before those coming after us. Today, the Independence Day is the fit day for us to wonder everybody what Moldova’s story we want to be, as we are the ones who write it. The pen is in our hands. Let us write it together with love and pride,’’ the head of state said.

Maia Sandu also said that ‘’we, those who are born in Moldova, are not better or worse than other nations.’’ ‘’Maybe we had a tougher way or sometimes our fate was hostile, but it is up to us to find and celebrate what we have the best. Year after year, we find ever more reasons to be proud of the achievements of the people of Moldova and this makes us become better and stronger,’’ the Moldovan president said.

The head of state came up with an urge to all citizens of Moldova. ‘’Dear Moldovans, I wish you, wherever you are, in your homes with your children or abroad at international events, to speak about Moldova and its people with pride. About our sportspeople, about our artists, about our pupils, about our cabbage rolls and pies, about the parental house’s porch, about the sweet cherries which one cannot find anywhere in the world, about the kindness of the Moldovans, about the folk dance and about the warmth with which our forests and hills receive you. We should notice and discover each good thing made in Moldova or by our Moldovans. We should be proud of Moldova. We should see it with our eyes nice and then we will make it nice. We are not defined only through geography or by the territory on which we live. We are united through the freedom to be anything we are set to. Dear Moldovans, today I wish you one thing: to believe in Moldova, in our country. Congratulations, Moldova!’’ Maia Sandu added.

Moldova on 27 August marked the 33rd anniversary of the proclamation of its Independence, voted by the parliament on 27 August 1991. The event was celebrated nationally in all the country’s villages, towns and cities with the laying of flowers, exhibitions, sports competitions, concerts and commemorative actions.
