Over 400 young people in 2024 choose to work in schools in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ - Over 400 graduates of the pedagogy faculties in 2024 chose to go to work in schools, according to Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun. The minister made statements to this effect at a today’s news conference on the starting of a new school year.   

„We have already 407 labour contracts signed by young specialists and we are to have another several ones. This confirms the priority announced by the Education Ministry as regards the enhancement of the attractiveness of the profession of teacher,’’ Perciun stressed.

The minister said that the principal educational authority of Moldova would continue attracting the attention to the deficit of teachers. The official referred to free of charge re-qualifications for teachers, as well as the simplification of these procedures for the teaching staff, measures of de-bureaucratization for teachers and the educators from kindergartens, larger framework of protection for teachers, etc.   

In the end of the 2022-2023 academic year, 1,879 positions of teacher were vacant in the education institutions from Moldova.   

The graduates of the pedagogical specialties due to be employed in one of the offices of teacher will receive allowance worth 200,000 lei in the first five years of work in the case of the graduates of universities and 160,000 lei for the graduates of colleges. Also, the teaching norm will reduced to 75 per cent in the first five years of activity, compensations worth 4,000 lei annually will be provided for purchasing teaching materials and equipment. As for the young teachers choosing to work in the rural environment and district centres, they will be provided compensation for the expenses for renting dwellings and consumption of thermal and electric energy. Also, the young specialists will benefit from leaves of 62 days, assistance on behalf of the teacher mentor in the first five years of work, as well as other facilities.
