Moldovan education minister says results of admission show increase in number of students matriculated in current academic year

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ - The results of the admission to colleges, vocational schools and universities show an increase in the number of pupils and students matriculated in this academic year. Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun today made statements to this effect at a news conference on the beginning of the new 2024-2025 school year.  

According to the minister, in the dual education (form of education in which the studies are combined with employment), there is a 54-per cent growth in the  number of pupils admitted. Also, the preliminary data of the admission to universities at the degree education show an increase of about 10 per cent in the number of students admitted to higher education institutions, against the 2023 year.      

„Investments worth about 554 million lei were made and additional resources of 110 million euros were mobilized from partners in the infrastructure of the education institutions from Moldova in 2023. For the next academic year, the investments in the infrastructure will increase to 1.3 billion lei. The resources will be used for the endowment of the schools and kindergartens, vocational schools, colleges and universities, as well as hostels. On the period 2024-2027, investments amounting to 2.6 billion lei will be made,’’ Dan Perciun said.    

In 2023, the education institutions from Moldova received endowments of equipment, furniture, teaching and methodological materials worth about 140 million lei and the sum meant on this purpose for 2024-2025 will reach 160 million lei.

The institutions were provided with an overall number of 5,000 laptops, 500 computers, 69 schools buses (40 of which have been already delivered). A number of 200 schools and 200 kindergartens of Moldova will benefit from investments worth 3.5 million dollars.
