Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved more amendments on the organization and carrying out of the tourist activity in Moldova. The amendments will ensure Moldova’s promotion as tourist destination, as well as will guarantee the adjusting of the legislative framework in the tourism sector to the international standards.

According to the government’s communication department, the new regulations abrogate terms which are no longer up-to-date and define new notions, such as the tourist destination, tourist guide, indicator of tourist information and orientation, including according to the glossary of terms used in the field internationally, elaborated by the World Tourism Organization.

Also, the amendments provide to the Culture Ministry the power to approve regulations on the mechanism of non-refundable financing of projects worked out by non-commercial organizations in the tourism sector, as well as of the work of the tourist information centres. At the same time, new methodological norms will be established for the elaboration of the national tourist routes and on the indicators of tourist information and orientation.

The National Tourism Office – public institution subordinated to the Culture Ministry – was set up in 2023, in order to support the development of tourism in Moldova.

According to Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan, the collections from the tourist activities in the last year exceeded 1.7-fold the figures recorded in the pre-pandemic 2019 year. In late 2023, over 300 tourist reception structures were working in Moldova, with a capacity of about 8,700 accommodation places.
