Chisinau, Sept. 20 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will be able to participate along with several European countries in joint public procurement procedures for purchasing medical countermeasures for serious health threats. MPs decided to approve an agreement on the matter today.
The joint procurement agreement is an innovative tool for organizing the procurement of vaccines and medicines in preparation for pandemics. Its aim is to ensure fair and cost-effective access to joint procurement of medical countermeasures.
At the same time, joint procurements offer the possibility of obtaining additional quantities of medicines or medical devices, including on account of quantities reserved by other states that are party to the framework agreement.
The Joint Procurement Agreement for procurement of medical countermeasures for the European Union institutions was adopted by the European Commission in 2014, and so far it has been signed by all 28 EU member states, as well as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo and Northern Macedonia. On July 9, 2024, the Republic of Moldova became the 38th country to sign the Agreement on joint public procurement in the field of health and the sixth EU candidate country to conclude the Agreement.
