Moldovan government approves Plan of measures to prepare for 2024-2025 heating season

Chisinau, Oct 2 /MOLDPRES/- Keeping natural gas security stocks, diversifying supply sources and using alternative fuels are some of the measures set out in the plan for 2024-2025 heating season, approved at today's cabinet meeting, the government's communication department has reported.
The document stipulates the necessary measures to ensure Moldova's energy security in the context of the risks on cutting off gas supply from Gazprom.
In addition to creating and preserving natural gas stocks, the increase of trade capacity at Romania - Moldova border is planned. Stocks of fuel oil, coal and alternative fuel will also be provided. Electricity generators in public institutions will be checked and those without such equipment will be fitted.
The use of biomass and renewable energy sources will also be promoted and the implementation of energy efficiency programs will be speeded up.
Today's meeting also set up a government commission to coordinate the measures, which will monitor their implementation and intervene quickly in the event of a crisis. It will work with all relevant actors in the energy sector to ensure the continuity of energy and gas supply on both banks of the Dniester.
In the Republic of Moldova, the number of end-users of natural gas is about 823 thousand, and of electricity - over 1322 thousand.
