Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has signed a decree on the appointment of the new head of the National Army’s General Staff, Vitalie Micov.
The candidacy of Vitalie Micov was proposed by the government.
„Vitalie Micov has the knowledge and experience necessary, in order to plan and implement reforms in the National Army, for the transformation of the defence institution and promotion of the democratic values in our country,’’ Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii said at the cabinet meeting.
The office of the head of the National Army’s General Staff remained vacant, after the government on 18 September had ruled to submit to Moldova’s president the proposal to dismiss Eduard Ohladciuc, in connection of the expiration of the contract on fulfillment of the military service.
Since August 2023, Vitalie Micov has held the position of superior military commander of the contingent of Moldova’s peacekeepers at Dniester.
