REFERENDUM 2024 // Iasi County Council president, CAPDR head urge Moldovan citizens to support European integration

14:49 | 18.10.2024 Category: Referendum 2024

Chișinău, Oct 17 /MOLDPRES/-  On 20 October, presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on accession to the European Union will take place in the Republic of Moldova.

Moldovan citizens will participate in a constitutional referendum on 20 October, in which they will answer the question: "Do you agree with amending the Constitution for Moldova's accession to the European Union?"

The Republic of Moldova will make the right choice and take one step closer to Europe. The European path and belonging to the great European family is the only chance Moldova has today to develop quickly, fairly and sustainably. It is natural and normal for this response to come from the reason and soul of every citizen of the Republic of Moldova. Iași County Council President Costel Alexe and President of the Center for Regional Development Analysis and Planning (CAPDR) Ion Ștefanovici call on the citizens of Moldova to support European integration on October 20. These opinions were expressed during the REFERENDUM 2024 campaign organized by MOLDPRES Agency.

Costel Alexe, President of the Iași County Council:

"I send a message of unity and trust to all citizens of the Republic of Moldova to vote in favor of joining the European Union in the referendum on October 20. I am confident that the Republic of Moldova will make the right choice and will be one step closer to Europe. This is also demonstrated by the fact that 1 out of 4 citizens of the Republic of Moldova holds Romanian citizenship.

The European path and belonging to the great European family is the only chance Moldova has today to develop quickly, fairly and sustainably. Choosing Europe is undoubtedly a decision that will open new perspectives for development and strengthen stability in the region.

Support the pro-European path! It is the choice of your future!"

Ion Ștefanovici, President of the Center for Regional Development Analysis and Planning:

"There are several arguments to explain to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova that integration into the European Union is the most suitable choice for the future of the state. It is only natural and normal for this response to come from the reason and soul of each individual. If I had the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova—perhaps in the future this will happen—I would have no doubts at all. I would have no doubt about what I want for my family, my society, my community, my country. No doubt at all. The Republic of Moldova has examples to compare with what it used to be. I don’t believe a response should be induced. It only requires a comparative analysis. Where we have been, where we are, and where we want to go. It's like in life, like in a family. It's a decision based on what has already happened to you. If you want to repeat certain mistakes, go ahead, but expect the same results.

The Republic of Moldova is at a crucial moment in its economic and social development, having access to European funds meant to support infrastructure, environmental, and regional development projects. In conclusion, implementing European funds in the Republic of Moldova represents not only a crucial opportunity for development but also a test of the country's ability to manage resources effectively and generate a positive impact in local communities. By adopting coherent strategies, simplifying administrative procedures, and strengthening administrative capacity, Moldova can transform promises into concrete and sustainable results for the benefit of its citizens.

These efforts will play a vital role in strengthening Moldova's European path and increasing the overall well-being of the population, reflecting the country's ongoing commitment to European integration and sustainable development."
