Over 50 per cent of Moldovans with right to vote participate in presidential elections

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - Over 50 per cent of the citizens with right to vote have participated in the presidential elections, according to data by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). Citizens from the Chisinau municipality, Donduseni, Taraclia, Falesti and those from abroad are among the most active ones.
According to CEC, 1,498,505 electors voted till 19:45, which accounts for 50.15 per cent.
Till 19:00, 48.70 per cent of the electors registered in the electoral lists exercised their right to vote. For comparison, till 19:00, 41.02 per cent of the electors managed to vote at the presidential elections from 2020. The head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, has unveiled data to this effect at a news briefing.
According to the CEC president, the most active electoral constituencies are Donduseni, where 47 per cent of the electors voted, Criuleni, Falesti, Taraclia, where over 45 per cent of the electors voted.
„About 15,000 electors came to vote at those 30 polling stations set up for the citizens with right to vote from the settlements on the left bank of Dniester. Over 198,000 citizens with right to vote cast their ballots at the polling stations from abroad till 19:00,’’ Angelica Caraman also said.
Also, abroad till 19:00, all those 22 polling stations from the United States and Canada were opened without hindrances. At the same time, the polling station from India, when ten electors voted, was closed. ‘’A large number of citizens is recorded, who expect to exercise their right to vote at several polling stations from Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, Romania, Russia,’’ Angelica Caraman noted.
According to CEC, the most active voting was reported at the polling stations opened in Moscow, Russia (two polling stations) – over 3,230 and, respectively, 3.140; Bucharest, Romania – over 2,460, Padua, Italy – over 2,450, Brescia, Italy – about 2,400 voters.
According to information provided by the Public Services Agency (ASP), 995 provisional identity cards and 1,611 identity cards today were processed and issued. As compared with the 2021 year, 1,769 provisional identity cards and 1,622 identity cards were released on the election day.
Also, according to information provided by the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), a low level of infringements of the process underway is recorded.
The electors can exercise their right to vote till 21:00. The electoral bureau can decide on the extension of the voting term by two hours at the most, in order to allow the voters who stay in queue at the concerned polling station to fulfill their rights.
