Moldovan electoral body submitted documents on referendum results to Constitutional Court

Chisinau, Oct 26 /MOLDPRES/- Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today submitted to the Constitutional Court the documents and materials needed to confirm the results of the October 20 republican constitutional referendum.
Thus, the Constitutional Court received the CEC decisions on the participation of citizens in the referendum, the reports on results, as well as the report of the Commission on the organization and conduct of the referendum.
According to the Electoral Code, within 10 days, the Constitutional Court examines the documents submitted by the Central Electoral Commission and confirms or overturns the results of the republican referendum by a decision.
At the 25 October meeting, the CEC declared the constitutional republican referendum of 20 October valid and approved the report on the voting results.
Thus, based on the reports on voting results of the referendum, the Central Electoral Commission found a turnout of 50.72%. In this context, 1,532,264 voters received ballot papers for the referendum, 1,531,392 voters participated in the vote. Out of the total number of 1,488,874 valid votes cast, 749,719 people voted for YES option and 739,155 people voted for NO option.
