Chisinau, Nov. 11 /MOLDPRES/- The path of economic agents from the Republic of Moldova to reach European standards and to be the first to export fresh poultry meat and eggs to the European Union market has been a complex one. It has meant first of all two years of coordinated efforts, during which the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and its partners have worked intensively to revise and adjust a number of normative acts and regulations.

These acts include key laws such as Law 306/2018 on food safety, sanitary-veterinary norms for products of animal origin, as well as other regulations that establish hygiene, quality and biosecurity criteria.

The compliance process included a rigorous legislative audit to assess the compatibility of our regulatory framework with the European directives. This exercise was a detailed analysis and adjustment of all regulations ensuring that our animal products meet the same strict standards as in member states.

Currently, our country has three economic agents that can export eggs and chicken meat to the EU market, following the harmonization of our legislation with the EU requirements.

On October 8, the first batches of fresh (frozen) poultry meat from Moldova were exported to the European Union, the world's largest market. On the same day, the first producer of eggs (category A) in the country was listed with the right to export its product to the EU market. This was possible as a result of the efforts of state institutions on the implementation of national legislation harmonized with the EU legislation in March 2023, when the Republic of Moldova obtained the right to export poultry products to the European Community.
