Chisinau, Nov. 12 /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu is attending today the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The event is hosted by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

According to the presidential press service, the head of state will deliver a speech at the high-level segment of COP29 and will hold bilateral meetings with other heads of state and high-ranking officials.

COP is the main international forum dedicated to combating climate change and brings together heads of state and government, business and civil society organizations annually to coordinate global efforts and propose concrete solutions to one of the most pressing issues of our time. At the event, a particular focus will be on financing, as the global transition to a low-carbon future requires trillions of dollars of investment globally. These funds are essential to help countries reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect people affected by the growing impacts of climate change.

In the context of record-breaking global temperatures and the intensification of extreme weather events, COP29 aims to mobilize international support for solutions that contribute to a safer and more sustainable future, especially in countries most vulnerable to climate change. Moldova's participation in the conference reflects the country's commitment to environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, while strengthening collaboration with international partners in this direction.
