US to support Moldova in current energy crisis

Chisinau, Dec. 4. /MOLDPRES/- Energy Minister Victor Parlicov met yesterday with Kevin Covert, U.S. chargé d'affaires ad interim to Moldova. The parties discussed the security of natural gas and electricity deliveries this winter in the context of the global development of energy resource prices and the regional situation, as well as the ministry's plans in this regard.

They also discussed the prospects of supplying the population on the left bank of the Dniester with energy resources if Gazprom fails to meet its contractual obligations after January 1, 2025, when the contract on transit of natural gas through Ukraine expires.

Another topic discussed was the Energy Ministry's estimates of the financial support needed from Western partners to manage a possible regional energy crisis.

The American official expressed the support of the United States for the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the current energy crisis, and appreciated the strategic vision of the Ministry of Energy regarding the development of the energy sector.
