Chisinau, Dec. 4. /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu has spoken in Washington about the challenges Moldova faces in the European path, including Russia's hybrid war, political interference and threats to the country's energy security, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The speaker delivered a speech at the opening of the Forum on Moldova's Euro-Atlantic Future, organized by Hudson Institute of the United States, which brought together experts, researchers and politicians.
"Moldova's future must be associated with the European Union and our goal is to be ready for membership by 2030. The illogical and unjust war started by Russia in Ukraine has once again proved that we need Europe as a peace project, as a reliable and predictable partner, as a space where fundamental rights are respected and people can enjoy their freedoms and opportunities," Grosu said.
The official referred to the hybrid war waged by Russia in our country, saying that the tactics used in the Republic of Moldova, including the allocation of illegal funds for election campaigns, are now being replicated in the region and this is an alarming signal. "What is happening now in the energy sector is also part of Russia's strategy. Clearly this is linked to our upcoming parliamentary elections. Russia and its henchmen - crooks and oligarchs - still hope they will be able to bring back instability and chaos to Moldova," he said.
According to the speaker, the Moldovan authorities are striving to transform the country from a security recipient into a provider, which involves modernization in the areas of defense and security. "My appeal is to act united, fast and very resolutely, otherwise Russia will use our democratic way of doing things against us," Igor Grosu added.
Grosu is on a working visit to the United States on December 2-9.
