Moldovan PM informs about increases in salaries for next year

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - The budget for the 2025 will be balanced and aimed at backing the citizens. The budget will include financial means for increasing the salaries, pensions and social allowances. ‘’The solidarity with our people is what defines the budget for the 2025 year,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean has said at a news conference held following the approval of the 2025 Budget at the cabinet meeting.  

The social support budget

The prime minister came before media representatives with specifications on the most important chapters which directly regard the citizens. Dorin Recean noted that, in the previous years – 2022-2023, the authorities had focused on ensuring the capacity of economic growth and at present, the foremost task of the government was to meet the people’s expectations.     

„Despite all difficulties, problems which exist in the region and the problems for the economic growth, caused by the invasion of the Kremlin’s regime in Ukraine, we have stabilized the economy and the main task now is to fulfill the citizens’ requests. The biggest problem of the citizens is presently, on the one hand, the incomes; on the other hand, the quality of the services provided by the state. The solidarity with our people is what the budget for the 2025 year defines. The government works to identify as many resources as possible, for us to be able to increase the citizens’ revenues. It is about the pensioners and the low-incomes people. I want to assure all citizens that, as soon as the government identifies financial resources, it makes them available to everybody,’’ Dorin Recean said.      

Salary increases in 2025

The PM informed that an increase of the revenues and salaries for the social categories was planned for the 2025 year. In all, the salary package will register a growth from 25 billion lei to 30 billion lei.  

In the education, over 50,000 teachers, educators, researchers will benefit from an increase of 9 per cent;     

The salaries of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) employees will grow by 9 per cent as well. The policemen, border policemen, rescuers, firemen, employees of the National Inspectorate of Probation and Administration of Penitentiaries will take higher salaries too.   

In the health sector, the salaries will increase by about 15 per cent. As many as 51,000 people from the mandatory health insurances system, 13,000 physicians, judicial experts, medical assistants, doctor’s assistants and hospital attendants who are state’s employees will benefit from increases.    

The minimal salary on economy will grow from 5,000 to 5,500 lei. At least 33,000 employees from the budgetary and private sectors will benefit from this increase.  

„These increases represent a phase in a longer process of improvement of the living standards here in Moldova, so that we reach the European countries – our neighbours Bulgaria and Romania and other states which are already members of the European Union. The salaries, pensions, social allocations are able to meet all expectations of the people and the government’s goal is to generate sustainable economic growth, so that it provides the budgetary revenues, so that we are able to pay the salaries, pensions and the social and medical services. The increases which I announced today are not enough; we understand that we must continue this effort, in order to gradually increase the revenues of all Moldovans,’’ Dorin Recean said.       

The government backs the 1992 Transnistria War veterans

Dorin Recean informed that the veterans of the 1992 war for the defence of the Independence and Territorial Integrity of Moldova would enjoy an enhanced social protection. The government identified 120 million lei for the first stage of the enforcement of the new law on the Transnistria War veterans. The veterans’ monthly allocation will grow up to 1,610 lei; additional means will be earmarked for supplementary social benefits, Recean also said.     

The old age pensions will be indexed by 6.1 per cent  

Starting from 1 April 2025, the pensions and social benefits will be indexed by 6.1 per cent. The increase will be enforced, first of all, for the pensions which are relatively lower, i.e. under the average salary worth 16,100 lei, forecast for 2025. The prime minister said that the retirement system was still unbalanced and the government was focusing its efforts to reduce the inequity.  

Starting from 1 May 2025, the government will implement the initiative by President Maia Sandu to increase to 3,300 lei the pension for the people with a length of service of 40 years.

The victims of the political repressions will enjoy a monthly state allocation increased to 1,250 lei.  

As of 1 January, the single childbirth allowance will stand at 21,350 lei.

More compensated medicines and renovated schools

In the health field, beyond the salary increase, the budget also sees an extension of the list of compensated medicines, as well as compensated medical devices, a growth by 124 million lei additionally. The overall value of investments will be of 1.2 billion lei.   

In the education sector, 147 million lei will be allocated for buses, computers, furniture for the modernization of 20 model schools out of the total number of 35 ones. Projects for the full renovation of 15 schools included in the network of Model Schools will be implemented.    

„For the 2025 budget, the government reaffirms its solidarity with the citizens and the commitment to edify a fair society, so that each person can benefit from better conditions for living and more opportunities of development,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean stressed.   

The government today approved the draft state budget for the 2025 year. The principal measures provided for in the document deal with the implementation of the new salary policies, providing compensations for energy, as well as the increase in the social benefits.  .
