Moldovan infrastructure ministry says competent ministry to turn to account capacities of Giurgiulesti port

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolea, along with the state secretary in the transports sector, Mircea Pascaluta, today visited the Giurgiulesti port complex – the State Port and the Giurgiulesti Free International Port. During a discussion with the administrations of the port complex, the officials tackled aspects on the current activity, future development projects, as well as the present challenges of optimization and modernization of the port operations.
Vladimir Bolea said that the country’s southern region, with the two important logistic knots, must be used in the interest of the citizens and of the business environment. ‘’In the last years, the Giurgiulesti State Port has had a record volume of goods’ processing, from 6.3 thousand tons of cereals and 14,222 animals in 2020, to 477.9 thousand tons of cereals and 21,084 animals in 2024. Through investments in the modernization of the infrastructure and optimizing of the operational processes, we will be able to fully turn to account the port’s capacities and in this way, we will back the local and regional economy,’’ the minister stressed.
During the discussions, the emphases were put on the openness for the private environment and strengthening of the administrative capacity for the preparation of the import/export season of the next year, use of the port’s infrastructure for the import and export of agricultural products, as well as the interconnection of the railways with the state port, in order to fully use the capacities of the railway and naval transport.
