Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu urges the Moldovans with Romanian citizenship to actively participate in the presidential elections in Romania, which will take place in Romania in the next week-end. Moldova wants to be part of the European Union, Maia Sandu said.

„Dear Romanians, in the next week-end, we will go to vote again. I will vote for Elena Lasconi, as it is authentic and I feel that she loves Romania. The most dangerous thing for a nation is when it is filled with fear and enmity. I understand that many of us are filled with worry and look for a leader with character who is to unite us. I think that Mrs. Lasconi is the courageous leader with love for the Romanians who can unite and who is to hold Romania on the right way,’’ Maia Sandu wrote on her Facebook account.

The president noted that Moldova wanted to join the European Union and it presently needs the help of the Moldovans with the Romanian citizenship. ‘’For us, the people from Moldova, Romania has always been a model worth being followed. Through the effort of the Romanians, Romania today stays with its forehead up in the European Union. The progress is seen with the naked eye. Therefore, we also want to be part of the European Union, but we need your help. I know that Elena Lasconi will not renounce the relation with Moldova, but will continue what we started doing together. We have many nice projects to be carried out. Our common destiny is the free world – well-being, stability and development which the affiliation with the European Union brings,’’ Maia Sandu said.

„I am confident that, just as the Romanians have acted during history, Elena Lasconi will fight for the country and will win for the country. For a strong, respected Romania, so that all Romanians, at home and from abroad, are united, respected and proud of their nation in Europe and in the world. Therefore, for me and for many others, our peaceful and prosperous future is with YES for Elena Lasconi! So helps us God!’’ the Moldovan president added.

On 8 December, the runoff presidential elections will take place in Romania. The candidate of the Save Romania Union, Elena Lasconi, and an independent candidate, Calin Georgescu, will fight for the office of president.

The voting in the Diaspora will start on 6 December. Fifty nine polling stations will be opened in Moldova. The voting process will start at 12:00. The voting will continue on Saturday, 7 December and Sunday, 8 December, during 07:00-21:00.
