Chisinau, Dec. 9. /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu took part in International Democracy Union /IDU/ forum in Washington, during his visit to the United States. The official gave a speech on the challenges facing the Republic of Moldova and the entire region.
He noted that a month ago our country faced unprecedented events.
"A month ago, in two electoral polls Moldovans witnessed how hybrid warfare, information technologies, social networks were on the verge of turning us back, of missing our historic chance in our European path," Grosu said.
The speaker said he spoke at the forum about "the courage of Moldovans in demonstrating to the whole world that their voice is stronger and their desire to be part of a big European family is greater than Kremlin propaganda and millions of dollars invested in criminal groups".
"We in the Republic of Moldova have managed to repel the first attack on our democracy and sovereignty. We set the European vector in the Constitution and elected a pro-European president. However, the political situation is complicated, the criminal groups through which Russia is working in the region are not taking it easy, they are making heavy use of social networks and propaganda to weaken us, weaken democratic processes. This year, in the middle of winter, Kremlin is using the gas issue in a cynical way, for political purposes, to create dependency, but also to create chaos in the states in their former area of influence. Now, more than ever, the Republic of Moldova needs the support of all democratic forces to remain part of the free world, to be a European Moldova", concluded Grosu.
The International Democracy Union is an international alliance of political parties with 73 members from 63 different countries.
Last week, Grosu and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi paid a working visit to the United States of America.
