Children with hearing deficiency from Moldova to benefit from assistive equipment in education process

Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/ - A consignment of 500 assistance equipment for children with hearing and sight deficiency has been provided to the Republican Centre of Psycho-pedagogical Assistance. The initiative is financed by the Global Partnership for Education and is implemented by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The action’s goal is to contribute to the promotion of the inclusion and the ensuring of a fair access to education for the children with special educational requirements from all over Moldova.
At the event on the delivery of the equipment, Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun stressed that this procurement represented an important step on the road to the carrying out of the 2030 Education Agenda.
„Through the integration of the assistive technologies in our educational system, we provide the same opportunities to the children with special needs. This approach aligns with our commitment to build an inclusive and sustainable educational system, due to educate all children for the challenges of the future. Besides, this initiative shows Moldova’s continuous progress on the way of integration into the European Union, where the education plays an essential role in the shaping of a more inclusive and more resilient society,’’ Dan Perciun stressed.
The consignment donated is part of the bigger acquisition worth over 1.1 million dollars, which will be used to facilitate the integration of children with disabilities in the education system. It includes advanced instruments for the children with hearing and sight deficiency, such as Braille printers, software for reading the screen and adapted keyboards.
The procurement of the assistive technology was carried out based on a detailed analysis of the needs of the specialized education institutions, such as the Republican Centre of Psycho-pedagogical Assistance, Psycho-pedagogical Assistance Services, Resource Centres for Inclusive Education and the general schools.
The equipment, worth 180,000 dollars in all, was bought by UNICEF Moldova, with the financial support of the Global Partnership for Education.
