Ilan Shor, final conviction in Bank Fraud file: Moldova's Supreme Court of Justice maintains ruling by Court of Appeal

Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - The magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) have maintained the ruling on conviction of fugitive Ilan Shor for 15 years of imprisonment.
The panel of judges, by unanimous voting, today turned down the appeals by the lawyers of Ilan Shor.
Ilan Shor, who fled Moldova in June 2019, after the downfall of Plahotniuc’s regime, on 13 April 2023 was sentenced by magistrates of the Court of Appeal to 15 years of imprisonment in a closed prison, with the deprivation of the right to hold offices in the banking system for a five-year period. According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, Shor is to return over 5.2 billion lei to Banca de Economii (Savings Bank).
Ilan Shor fled Moldova in 2019, after the Democratic Party had stepped down. Shor is on the list of sanctions imposed by the USA and the United Kingdom, as well as in the database of Mirotvorets – a list of enemies of the Ukrainian state.
