Public procurement fraud scheme busted

Chisinau, Dec. 16 /MOLDPRES/- Two employees and five representatives of economic agents have been detained by anti-corruption officers following more than 60 searches carried out in several cases related to fraudulent public procurement.

According to the National Anti-Corruption Center /CNA/, during 2024, officials of the General Directorate of Urban Mobility of the Chisinau Municipal Council, responsible for the public procurement process, allegedly created a criminal scheme according to which they systematically accepted and received goods, advantages and/or money from private people and legal entities in order to award public procurement contracts. This concerns contracts for the construction or repair of sidewalks, public transport roadways, access to yards.

CNA officers identified and documented at least 20 episodes of public procurement fraud involving public persons.
