Over 300 magistrates in General Assembly of Judges in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - Over 300 magistrates today participate in the General Assembly of Judges. The event, held at the Chisinau-based Palace of the Republic, started with an encouraging speech by Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.
In the beginning of the meeting, the president of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), Sergiu Caraman, said that the assembly ‘’is a fundamental moment, in order to consolidate the judicial self-management and establish the clear-cut directions in the work of the judicial system.’’
The justice minister reviewed the changes made to the legislation and urged the magistrates to be confident and work for a consolidated justice system.
„We were set to change the perception of the high degree of corruption in the justice system, the lack of confidence in values and goals of accession to EU with an independent, responsible and efficient justice. I believe and I am sure that we were aware, along with those three powers of the state, of the crucial role of justice in the development of the society, business environment, investments’ attraction. At the same time, we recognize that we have to cover an important way. I wish you, dear judges, to achieve in the career the satisfaction of work in a consolidated justice system and the sustained development of your abilities,’’ the justice minister said.
The participants in the today’s meetings are to approve amendments to the Regulation on the work of the General Assembly of Judges.
Nine magistrates will run for the seats from the College of selection and evaluation of judges and there are six magistrates for the positions from the disciplinary College.
A number of 400 judges work in Moldova’s courts. The last General Assembly of Judges took place on 1 March 2024.
