Moldovan justice minister gives speech at General Assembly of judges

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru today gave an encouraging speech at the opening of the General Assembly of Judges. She said that the Assembly’s format meant the achievement of a new goal in the reestablishment of the self-management of the judicial system.
The justice minister reviewed the achievements got in the last years. ‘’The Assembly is a good occasion to find out that, through our joint efforts, achievements have been got in the process of building of a sector of modern justice, which we proceeded from the premises announced in the Strategy for the ensuring of the independence and integrity of the justice sector for the 2022-2025 years. We were set to change the perception of the high degree of corruption in the justice system and the lack of confidence in justice. Taking into account the values and goals of accession to the European Union, we aspire to an independent, responsible and efficient justice. We were aware together, those three powers of the state, of the crucial role of justice in the development of the society, business environment, investments’ attraction in the country and we worked a lot in order to achieve certain levels of accomplishment. At the same time, we still have to make important steps,’’ Moraru said.
She welcomed the fact that, through the efforts of the Council of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), made in 2023 and 2024, the newly admitted judges in profession are present at the Assembly, who can express their option for the setting up of the specialized bodies.
The official noted that the selection and career of judges represented key elements for ensuring an independent and professional judicial system.
The minister stressed that the modernization of the administration of the judicial system had become perceptible.
In the end of her speech, the justice minister said that solutions can be found to improve the judicial system, as well as the quality of the justice act which the society is expecting and deserves.
A number of 311 judges out of 374 in office participate in the General Assembly of Judges today.
