Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean informs that Moldova is prepared for managing any situation emerged following the Kremlin’s decision. The PM has made statements to this effect after today Gazprom notified Moldovagaz that it would no longer deliver natural starting from 1 January 2025.

The prime minister said that this decision confirmed once again the Kremlin’s intention to leave the residents from the Transnistrian region without light and heating in the middle of the winter. ‘’Russia uses the energy as political weapon, turning the people from the Transnistrian region, whom they control through the illegally deployed army, into hostages,’’ Dorin Recean said.

„The government condemns these oppressive tactics and reiterates that it would not recognize any alleged debt, invalidated by the international audit,’’ Recean noted.

He specified that Moldova had diversified the sources of supply with natural gas, in order to reduce the dependence on a single provider on the right bank of Dniester. ‘’Our country is prepared to manage any situation following the Kremlin’s decision. We will continue ensuring the supply with natural gas from other sources and to protect the vulnerable consumers. The government will attentively analyze the legal options, including the resorting to international arbitration, in order to protect our national interests and to ask for damage compensations in the wake of the Kremlin’s decisions, which cause economic losses and hit the safety and security of Moldova’s citizens,’’ Recean said.

Gazprom today notified its daughter company, Moldovagaz, that it would no longer deliver natural gas as of 1 January 2025, 8:00, invoking the pretext that Moldovagaz ‘’constantly does not fulfill its payment obligations.’’
