Chisinau, Dec. 30 /MOLDPRES/- The government together with development partners has prepared a plan to provide humanitarian aid to the citizens of the left bank. President Maia Sandu made the statement following a discussion with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Speaker Igor Grosu and Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian on the country's energy situation.

The head of state said that after two years ago Gazprom stopped fulfilling contractual obligations to consumers on the right bank, it has now announced that it will stop supplying gas to the left bank as well. "On the right bank we are provided with natural gas for the heating season and we are taking all measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply," Maia Sandu said.

"Kremlin is once again using energy blackmail in an attempt to destabilize our country, influence the 2025 parliamentary elections and undermine our European path. At such times, it is important to remain united, in solidarity and have faith in Moldova and people. It is important to use energy rationally," Maia Sandu said.

The Russian concern Gazprom notified two days ago the daughter company it controls, Moldovagaz company, that it will no longer deliver natural gas from 1 January 2025, at 08:00, citing the pretext that Moldovagaz "does not constantly honor its payment obligations".

In this context, Recean said "our country is ready to manage any situation arising from Kremlin's decision". He also said "the government condemns these oppressive tactics and reiterates that it will not recognize any alleged debt, which has been invalidated by the international audit".
