Over 2,000 files on repressions from Soviet period to be declassified

Chisinau, May 6. /MOLDPRES/- The Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) will transmit to the National Archives Agency over 2,000 files on political repressions from the Soviet period, as well as, for the first time, files on the administrative activity of the Soviet coercive institution within the Moldovan SSR. This will be possible under an Agreement signed yesterday by directors of the two institutions.
"Information on the flagrant violations of human rights, admitted during the Soviet period on the current territory of the Republic of Moldova, will be accessible to the general public and the academic/scientific circles, in order to rehabilitate the people who suffered, as well as to strengthen the efforts to elucidate the the historical truth", a press release of the SIS reads.
Thus, the SIS will transmit to the National Archives Agency over 2,000 files stored in the special state repository of the institution.
SIS director Alexandru Musteata said that the institution will continue its efforts to finalize the process of selecting and processing the materials from the archive in order to facilitate their transmission to the National Archives Agency, so that people interested in knowing the historical past of the country can have access to these files.
