Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - Poet Mihai Eminescu was commemorated in Chisinau today, on the occasion of his 134th birthday anniversary.
Writers, culture and art people, representatives of the central and local public administration and people fond of poetry today morning laid flowers at the bust to Mihai Eminescu on the Alley of Classics of the Romanian Literature from the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden in Chisinau. The action was followed by a literary and musical recital.
In his speech, the head of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, Teo Chiriac, said that today was a day when people recall the life and work of Mihai Eminescu. ”It is good to fulfill what Eminescu said in his works, especially in the political one. He gave us clear-cut answers on who we are, where we are coming from and where should we go,’’ Teo Chiriac stressed.
Mihai Eminescu, regarded by the posthumous literary criticism as the most important poet of the Romanian literature, was born in Botosani, Romania, on 15 January 1850. Eminescu died in Bucharest on 15 June 1889 and was buried at the Bellu Cemetery from this city. On 28 October 1948, Mihai Eminescu was posthumously elected as member of the Romanian Academy.
