Moldovan foreign affairs minister pays working visit to Valletta, Malta

Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has paid a working visit to Malta, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
During his first working visit to Valletta, Minister Nicu Popescu met Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta Ian Borg. The officials discussed Moldova’s European integration way and the country’s significant progress made in the implementation of those nine recommendations of the European Commission. We rely, in this respect, on Malta’s support for starting the negotiations on accession till the end of this year, as well as for speeding up the accession to EU, Nicu Popescu said.
In the context, the Moldovan official thanked for the presence of Prime Minister Roberto Abelala at the Summit of the European Political Community held on 1 June, which was a first visit by a Maltese PM to Moldova. At the same time, we count on Malta’s participation in the fourth ministerial conference of the Moldova Support Platform, which will take place in Chisinau in next autumn.
„I appreciated also the good relations between our countries and expressed the wish to boost the cooperation institutionally. In this respect, we signed a memorandum on cooperation between the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies and MAEIE’s Diplomatic Institute.
We also referred to the good cooperation within international organizations, fostering of the sectoral collaboration, with emphasis put investments’ attraction, organization of business missions, with the involvement of the chambers of commerce from the two countries.
Also in Valletta, I had a meeting with the president of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs of the Chamber of Representative, Glenn Bedingfield. I thanked Mr. Bedingfield for the support of our European integration way. At the same time, I spoke out for the boosting of the parliamentary dialogue, as well as of the cooperation in such sectors as tourism, cyber security and digitalization,’’ the Moldovan official added.
