Moldovan government to invest 55 million dollars in development of agricultural sector

Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - Fifty five million dollars will be invested in the development of the agricultural sector till 2029. The cabinet of ministers today approved a draft law on the ratification of an agreement on loan between Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), in order to carry out the Agriculture Governance, Growth and Resilience Investment (AGGRI) project, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.      

Thus, 21 million dollars will be provided to farmers as grants, in order to stimulate initiatives on the promotion and development of the animal husbandry and horticultural sectors. Another 25 million dollars will be directed for the rehabilitation of the primary and secondary infrastructure for irrigation.  

At the same time, about 6.5 million dollars is planned for strengthening the capacities of the Agency of Intervention and Payments for Agriculture (AIPA) and the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA). The setting up of the Consultancy Centre in Agriculture and of Veterinary Centres of Excellence will be backed from the concerned sum as well. At the same time, about 2.5 million dollars will be used for the project’s management.   

The financial resources will contribute to the improvement of the quality of the agricultural services, enhancing the resilience and productivity of the agricultural enterprises. Also, the vulnerability to drought will be reduced through extending the availability of the irrigation services for farmers and ensuring efficient mechanisms of response to emerging crises.
