Chisinau, July 5. /MOLDPRES/- Four localities in the Republic of Moldova, which host refugees from Ukraine, are implementing energy efficiency solutions in public institutions, according to data from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The four communities increased access to local public services for both inhabitants and refugees. "In Tudora, Mihăileni and Găgăuzia, solar panels were installed at social institutions, and in Cotiujenii Mari, a building that houses three public institutions benefited from the renovation of the heating system and the installation of energy efficient windows. All these interventions increase the financial sustainability of the institutions and ensure better conditions for the beneficiaries", the UNDP said.
These infrastructure optimizations were possible thanks to the support of several partners: 23,500 dollars were offered by UNDP, 36,500 dollars – by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, 31,300 dollars – by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, local public administrations, residents, diaspora.
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, UNDP and its partners have been supporting host communities and refugees to meet urgent needs, while contributing to the socio-economic integration of refugees.
Through the implemented initiatives, support was provided in various fields, such as facilitating access to employment opportunities, improving the infrastructure of public services and strengthening social cohesion.
