About 400 projects of over 170 million lei to be implemented under Express European Village Program

Chisinau, July 12. /MOLDPRES/- Today, the government approved the results of the competition for small grants for development of localities in Moldova through Express European Village Program.
Thus, 680 conceptual notes were submitted to the competition. Following their evaluation, 399 projects were selected amounting to 172.3 million lei (8.6 million euros), money allocated from the National Fund for Local Regional Development.
Most of the projects - 192 in number - were submitted for the rehabilitation of the sports and social infrastructure. Another 70 local initiatives refer to the modernization of public lighting systems. For the rehabilitation of public buildings, 64 projects will be implemented, and 46 initiatives have been selected for the renovation of cultural centers. Also, energy efficiency projects will be carried out in 27 other localities, by installing energy production and supply systems, using renewable resources. Following the implementation of the projects additionally included in the Single Program Document, another 164 thousand citizens will benefit from better living conditions.
Additionally, the Government is coming to support the conditions under which childcare services will be offered for children up to three years old, by expanding the number of nurseries. Contest was organized within the competitive call for small grants, in which local public authorities of the first level, whose localities have a population greater than 5000 inhabitants participated. As a result, 22 projects for the construction/rehabilitation of nurseries were selected, worth 10 million lei.
"We have 917 projects pending - 496 within the European Village, 399 within the Express European Village and 22 projects for the construction and rehabilitation of nurseries, so that we can move from the European Village to a European Moldova", Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Lilia Dabija said.
The Express European Village program was launched following the initiative of President Maia Sandu to allow localities implement rapid projects, in a maximum of six months that require fewer financial resources.
