Chisinau, July 14. /MOLDPRES/- Parliament today supported the denunciation of the Agreement on technical barriers in the free trade area in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The draft was voted in the first reading.
The document was proposed by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization. According to the authors, the treaty lost its relevance once our country engaged in an extensive process of connecting the respective standards to the EU norms.
"Following the implementation of chapter 3, title V Trade and trade-related aspects of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EU, the Republic of Moldova has taken the necessary measures to progressively ensure the compliance of the internal policy with the objectives of the EU in the technical regulations, standards, metrology, accreditation, conformity assessment and market surveillance", the draft's information note reads. As a result, the system implemented by our country in the technical barriers to trade differs essentially from the systems of the CIS countries.
According to the authors, the denunciation of the agreement will not bring political consequences at the domestic, regional and multilateral level, nor of a financial-economic nature, because the Republic of Moldova has no financial or other obligations that would have arisen during its validity period and that do not were extinguished.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration will notify the CIS Executive Committee of the termination of the Agreement.
The draft is to be voted on in the second reading. The law will enter into force upon publication in the Official Journal.
