Chisinau, July 20. /MOLDPRES/- Specialists of the U.S. Department of Energy conducted a study in the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova and formulated a series of recommendations to strengthen the physical and cyber security of the critical infrastructure.
According to international relations specialist of the aforementioned department Nathan Reich, the recommendations are aimed at preventing possible attacks on critical infrastructure, in the context of the energy crisis and, in particular, the war in Ukraine.
The recommendations cover five areas – national security, foreign investment, reducing carbon emissions to zero, regional energy security and Moldova's accession to the European Union. Two national laboratories from the United States, specialized in energy research, participated in the development of the study.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan said that the document includes three scenarios, the worst being the total cessation of natural gas supplies by Gazprom, including for the left bank of the Dniester.
A similar study was set up in 2019 for the national system operator, Moldelectrica.
