Exports fell by 10.9% in first half of year

Chisinau, August 18 /MOLDPRES/- In January - June this year, exports of goods decreased by 10.9 percent, compared to the same period last year, and exceeded the amount of 2 billion dollars. On the other hand, imports of goods increased by 0.5% and amounted to 4.3 billion dollars.
Thus, according to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), the trade balance deficit, in January-June 2023, was 2.3 billion dollars, up by 270 million dollars or 13.1% than the one recorded in 2022.
Exports of goods to the countries of the European Union, in January-June this year, had a share of 61.3% in total exports, compared to a share of 25.6% in the case of exports to the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The main destination countries for goods exports were Romania, Ukraine, Italy, Germany, the Russian Federation, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
The BNS data also show that in the first half of the year, exports of oil and oil products increased, due to the increase in deliveries to Ukraine of machines and electrical appliances, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, electricity (18.2 times, generated by increasing deliveries to Romania and Ukraine). At the same time, the exports of seeds and oleaginous fruits, cereals, vegetable fats and oils, vegetables and fruits were reduced.
