Moldova's Audiovisual Council sanctions more TV stations

Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Audiovisual Council (CA), at a today’s meeting, imposed over 20 sanctions worth 437,000 lei (22.6 thousand euros) to the TV stations PRIME, Publika TV, CANAL 2, CANAL 3, CANAL 5, MEGA TV and Familia for the non-observance of the provisions as to the local programmes.
According to the CA members, the TV stations Publika TV, CANAL 2, CANAL 3, CANAL 5, MEGA TV and Familia had 0 per cent their own production in the first broadcasting, on the period subjected to control.
Thus, PRIME was to make 56 hours of local production, but made only 51 hours and 42 minutes. Twenty eight hours of broadcasting of them were to be in the first broadcasting, but the TV station broadcast a bit more than one hour. Publika TV made by almost 44 hours less local programmes than provided for by the legislation. The sanctions in case of this station amounted to 40,000 lei.
CANAL 2 carried out the biggest volume of self-promotion – almost 14 hours and 30 minutes out of a total time of 49 hours, 03 minutes and 39 seconds of local programmes. There were by 13 hours and 30 minutes less programmes than the law stipulated in the hours of maximal audience. The sum of sanctions imposed was of 66,000 lei. In March 2023, Telestar Media Ltd, the founder of CANAL 2, was repeatedly sanctioned for similar infringements.
CANAL 3 made by over 46 per cent less local programmes, only 30 hours, 10 minutes and 02 seconds, of which 7 hours and 32 minutes represented self-promotion. The sanctions amounted to 94,000 lei. CANAL 5 had by over 61 per cent less local product during the time of maximal audience. Thus, the sanctions totaled 65,000 lei.
MEGA TV broadcast 39 hours, 25 minutes and 51 seconds of local programmes, which is by almost 17 hours less than it should have had. The sum of fines imposed by CA today was of 47,000 lei. The FAMILIA TV station made by over 8 hours less local programmes, 47 hours, 40 minutes and 27 seconds in all, of which over 11 hours represented self-promotion. The fines amounted to 90,000 lei.
