Tenth edition of Diaspora's Congress held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/ - Over 300 people – citizens of the Diaspora, development partners of Moldova, representatives of public institutions and of the diplomatic corps today participated in the opening of Diaspora’s Congress, at its tenth edition. The event, titled, Moldova sunt EU (Moldova is ME), gave the Diaspora members possibility to interact with public authorities and to explore the governmental services and programmes, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
In her greeting speech, President Maia Sandu thanked the Diaspora representatives for their active involvement in activities of developing settlements. She stressed that the authorities were making efforts, in order to make the interaction of each citizen with Moldova easier and more comfortable.
„You know the role of Diaspora in the preservation of Moldova’s democratic course of development and how big your contribution is to the keeping of the European integration course. We have the priority task to bring the European Union home as quickly as possible, as the European Union is a project of peace, a project of well-being and is the only way for Moldova to manage to remain part of the free world and improve the living conditions for its citizens. Your competences, energy and involvement would be an extraordinary impetus for our country’s development,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
Among the actions already carried out, there are the conclusion of agreements on social protection with more countries, the cut by 50 per cent of the consular fees, as well as a new Agreement with the European Union on the roaming tariffs and ensuring better conditions for the Moldovans from abroad, so that they can participate in the electoral processes in Moldova.
„Diaspora’s contribution to Moldova’s development is extremely valuable. Our people from all regions of the planet actively participate in the social and political development of the country, as well as directly contribute to the fueling of the country’s economic growth. We appreciate a lot the contribution of our citizens from everywhere and the Diaspora’s Congress represents the best occasion to thank them and present the governmental bid, through which we made sure that we have all mechanisms for backing and motivating the Diaspora to invest at home,’’ the state secretary of the State Chancellery, Adrian Balutel, said.
Diaspora citizens today participate in a question-and answer session with President Maia Sandu and in workshops, where the participants will discuss opportunities of turning to good account Diaspora’s expertise and implementing the initiatives with impact for Moldova. Also, the participants in the Congress signed an agreement on cooperation between the Alliance of Associations of Natives and the Diaspora Relations Bureau. The tenth edition of Diaspora’s Congress will end with a cultural programme, presented by artists from the Diaspora.
The Diaspora’s Congress is held within the Diaspora Days, organized in Chisinau on 18-19 August. Moldova will host the Diaspora Business Forum on 19 August.
