Chisinau, 19 August /MOLDPRES/ - The old-style Orthodox Christians today mark the Transfiguration of the Lord Jesus Christ holiday, which is one of the greatest religious holidays.
On this day, Savior Jesus Christ took with Him the disciples John, Peter and Jacob to the Mount Tabor. When praying there, the Lord transfigured. According to the Bible, His face was shining as the son and His clothes turned as white as the snow. Two great prophets appeared, Moses and Elijah, and the following words where heard from a cloud: ‘’This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased! Listen to Him!.’’
The Transfiguration of the Lord holiday brings also a change in the nature.
On the concerned day, people bring grapes to churches to be blessed.
In some churches, the dead are commemorated on this holiday, especially those who died for the defence of the Motherland.
