About 50,000 families of Moldova to receive vouchers for new, energy efficient household appliances

Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - About 50,000 families of Moldova will receive vouchers for new and energy efficient household appliances, with the support of the European Union and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In this respect, the government today approved two regulations on the size and way of collection of contributions from citizens for programmes on optimization of the consumption of energy resources. The goal of the regulations approved is to facilitate the implementation of the programme of vouchers for household appliances and the programme on modernization of the internal system of distribution of thermal agent for heating and supply with domestic hot water. Both measures are financed by the European Union, within the project, Approaching the impact of the energy crisis in Moldova, implemented by UNDP Moldova.
The programme of vouchers for household appliances sees a financial support which covers 80 per cent of the cost of one product. The beneficiary family will have to contribute 20 per cent of the value of the concerned equipment. Also, free of charge vouchers will be provided for LED lamps. The overall cost of the programme is of 5.8 million dollars.
The goal of the vouchers’ programme is to cut the consumption of electric energy with the replacement of the household appliances held by the families selected, so that in the end, the vulnerable consumers pay lower invoices.
In the case of the second programme, on modernization of the internal system of thermal agent’s distribution, decision-makers will modernize the internal heating supply network at four apartment blocks from Chisinau, selected based on a public tender. The grant part of the project, implemented by UNDP Moldova and financed by the European Union, will be of also 80 per cent; the association of owners will pay a contribution of the works’ value of 20 per cent, in 12 months after the works’ completion at the latest. The cost of implementation of the present programme is estimated at one million dollars.
The provisions of the government decision are to be enforced during the period of implementation of the aforementioned programmes, which is August 2023- December 2024. Following the full turning to account of the financial means earmarked by UNDP Moldova, within the Approaching of the impact of the energy crisis in Moldova project, the cabinet is to ensure the continuity of the initiatives’ financing.
