Moldova has its own system of ecological labelling according to EU's requirements

Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/ - The symbol of ecological labelling has been registered at the State Intellectual Property Agency (ASPI). Thus, the products and services complying with the primary criteria of environment will be easier to be identified, facilitating the implementation of the best practices for the protection of the environment and public health, as well as products’ recycling, according to the Environment Ministry.
The ecological label is a graphic symbol put on the product, packing, in a booklet and other informative document which accompanies the product/service and which provides the information needed, which regard the criteria of providing the ecological label to products and services on market.
„The system of ecological labelling is voluntary and will be provided to groups of products, beginning with major production sectors up to services of tourist accommodation and have the following goals: to promote the environmental protection and reduce the impact of products or services on the environment; to inform and encourage the production of products and services labelled ecologically; encourage and enforce principles of environment in the designing and development of products and services; improve the sales and/or the image of a product as strategy of ‘’eco-marketing’’ and a strategy of distinguishing them from non-distinctive products,’’ the quoted source said.
The working out of the normative framework as to the eco-labelling was carried out within the project, EU4Environment, financed by the European Union, with the support of the EcoContact public association. The cabinet approved the regulation on ecological labelling on 12 April 2023, at an initiative by the Environment Ministry. The document will enter into force in April 2024. To put the ecological label, the aforementioned ministry is to elaborate the normative framework on the signs of the ecological label and the requirements concerning its use.
