Policemen from north Moldova city detained in flagrant delict while taking bribe

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ - Officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) have documented a case of passive corruption, which resulted in the detaining of a policeman of the Edinet Police Inspectorate. According to the denouncer, the investigation officer would have claimed 1,500 euros for the covering up of a case of illegal circulation of drugs.

According to CNA, on 18 August, the employee of the Edinet Police Inspectorate received for examination a material on the illegal distribution of drugs and he would have claimed a sum of 1,500 euros, in order to take a decision in favour of the investigated person. Thus, in exchange for the sum claimed, the policeman was to exonerate the suspect.

The detaining took place at the moment of money’s delivery and the officer from Edinet was placed in isolation ward for 72 hours.

Presently, criminal prosecution actions take place under the procedural leadership of the Balti-based prosecutor’s office, in order to document the cause under all aspects.
